Even thought Judgment shares a lot in common with the Yakuza games, there are plenty of new gameplay elements of minigames. Some of these elements tie into the idea of the main character, Takayuki Yagami, being a detective, like lock picking. With that, here’s how to lockpick in Judgment.
How to Lock Pick in Judgment
Out of all the new gameplay elements in Judgment, lock picking is by far the one you’ll use the most. The game frequently makes you do it for both the main story and side cases, and the VR Dice & Cube game also requires it.
It can be a little tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of it. As you can see in the image above, when you lock pick you’ll be taken to a screen with multiple tumblers you’ll need to raise up.
What you need to do is move your lock pick over to each tumbler, and then use the right stick to slowly raise it up until it clicks into place.
Slow is the key word here, as if you go too fast it’ll break the tumbler and cause all the other ones you’ve done to fall, meaning you’ll have to do it all again.
There are two indicators to show you’re getting close to the “sweet spot” when raising a tumbler.
One is the color, as you get closer and closer the color will go from grey to a dark yellow, and the darker it is the closer you are. The other indication is rumble, as the controller will rumble harder the closer you get.
Use both of these hints to guide you when lock picking.
Making Lock Picking Easier
If you find yourself having trouble there is, luckily, a way to make lock picking a bit easier.
Go to the Skills menu and then the Special tab. There you can find the Shear Coincidence skill, which has three levels. Each level lets you see one shear line when lock picking, meaning, one of the locks will have a line on it that you can just line up with the general shear line.
Level one of the skill only costs a few hundred SP so it’s easy to nab, while the next two levels will cost 1500 and 4500 respectively. If you want to make lock picking a bit easier, at the very least invest in the first skill.
