How to Get Portkeys in Harry Potter Wizards Unite

Portkeys can be obtained by simply walking around and keeping an eye out for what basically look like little houses with pointed tops. When you see one, simply tap on it and you’ll add it to your inventory.

There are three different types of Portkey Portmanteaus in Wizards Unite, similar to how Pokemon GO’s Eggs worked. These are as follows:

  • Prized Portkey
  • Precious Portkey
  • Paramount Portkey

Just because you’ve got a Portmanteau, though, doesn’t mean you can simply open it up straight away. You’ll need either a Gold or Silver key to open it up, so let’s run through how you get each of these down below.

How to Get Gold and Silver Keys

You’ll only ever have one Gold key in your possession in Wizards Unite, and this is given to you right at the start of the game when you first come across a Portkey. As for Silver keys, you’ll have to earn these by completing the various in-game challenges, or through leveling up.

The difference between these two types of Key is important to note. The Gold Key is permanent and can open as many Portkey Portmanteaus as you like. The Silver Keys, on the other hand, are single-use items, and enable you to work on opening two Portmanteaus at any one time.

We’ve currently received a Silver key every time we’ve leveled up in Wizards Unite, but they can also be purchased from the in-game store. This can be accessed by tapping on the Suitcase at the bottom of your screen and then tapping on the shopping basket in the top-right corner of your screen. Then, click on the orb-looking icon and you’ll see Silver Keys available for purchase.

Silver Keys can be purchased individually for 90 Gold, or as a four-pack for 325 Gold, offering a slight discount for buying in bulk.

Now that we’ve got Gold and Silvery Keys in our possession, it’s time to open up the Portkeys we’ve obtained.

How to Use Portkeys in Harry Potter Wizards Unite

If you caught onto our reference of how Pokemon GO’s Eggs worked just above, you might already have an idea of how these work. Portkeys are opened by walking with Wizards Unite open on your phone. The distance depends on the type of Portkey, as listed above. We’ve listed the distance required to walk with each type down below:

  • Prized Portkey – 2km
  • Precious Portkey – 5km
  • Paramount Portkey – 10km

Before you go about simply walking around, however, you’ll need to use one of your Gold or Silver Keys on it. To do this, open up the Briefcase at the bottom of the screen and select the Portkeys option.

Select the Portmanteau from the row at the top and then choose whether to use your Gold or Silver Key. Then, it’s simply a case of walking the distance we’ve noted for each above.

Once opened, the Portkey will take you to a location within the Wizarding World. Make sure you’re in a large, open area here so that you’ve got plenty of space for the AR magic to work.

Once you’re in this special Wizarding World location, you’ll have the chance to return a Foundable that can only be obtained by opening Portkeys, so they’re pretty important for you completionists.

That’s everything you need to know about Portkeys, Portmanteaus, Golden Keys, and Silver Keys in Harry Potter Wizards Unite. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki.
