Today the new Final Fantasy XIV movie “Dad of Light” is debuting in Japanese theaters, and it’s a fairly special kind of film. It isn’t specifically set in the game’s word, but it’s pretty literally about playing the game and forming connections within it.

This means that the movie includes a lot of scenes in which the protagonist controls his miqo’te named Maidy in the game, which might be quite obscure for the average moviegoer.

Enter today’s video in which Maidy herself teaches the viewer all there is to be known (at least superficially) about Final Fantasy XIV, from the basics like story and setting, to things like emotes, equipment, and the community.

It’s actually a really cute little introduction to the game for those who aren’t familiar with it. Considering that the movie is going to bring mainstream attention to the game just before the release of a major expansion, this is certainly a great promotional master plan by Square Enix. Add to that the recent trailer with Tom Holland and Hannibal Buress on the worldwide stage, and the publisher appears to be pulling all the stops to further improve Final Fantasy XIV’s player base records.

You can check out the video below, and see if it tempts you to play.

If you’d like to know more about Final Fantasy XIV and its upcoming expansion Shadowbringers, you can check out the details and footage released in the latest Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, information on the new races, the reveals from Tokyo FanFest including the Dancer job and the Hrothgar race an official batch of screenshots, and a look on how the new city of Crystarium has been created.

Just a few weeks ago, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida himself also explained why there won’t be male Viera and female Hrothgar, and why the expansion won’t include a healer job. An official benchmark has been released to let you test your rig and check out the new races.

If you want to get ready before the expansion’s release, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is currently available for PS4 and PC. Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers will officially launch on July 2 for PS4 and PC.
