Unlocking the Chalice of Opulence

Before you can even start farming for red runes, first you’ll need to unlock the Chalice of Opulence.

Once you’ve booted up the game, head to the Tower and go to the new mission marker. You’ll be able to start a new quest line called the Invitation. This will introduce you to the Chalice of Opulence itself, which can be upgraded and slotted with runes to help you narrow down the new weapons you want to get in Destiny 2.

At the start, you’ll only be able to get purple runes. However, with the right perks and enough Imperials, you can start farming for red runes as well.

Getting Red Runes

In order to start getting these runes to drop, you’ll need to purchase the Rune Compatibility I perk from the Chalice, which costs 1,000 Imperials. Imperials are a new form of currency that can be farmed by completing Triumphs and weekly bounties, and we’ve got a full guide here to help you get started on collecting these.

Once you have the required number of Imperials, purchase the perk, and you’ll now have the ability to obtain and slot in red runes.

The process for obtaining red runes is pretty much the same as getting purple runes. They can be obtained by completing weekly bounties and opening the treasure chests on the new Imperial Barge on Nessus.

The red runes are extremely helpful if you’re trying to unlock the Beloved Sniper Rifle, which you can get a guaranteed drop for if you have a Rune of Jubilation and a red rune slotted into the Chalice.

That’s all you need to know about how to get red runes in Destiny 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
