Slaying these monsters is no easy feat and will require proper preparations before each battle. In order to craft and upgrade your gear, you will need to hunt and obtain certain crafting materials from the behemoths you slay. Here’s how to get the Galactic Shard and what it’s used for.
How to Get Galactic Shard & What It’s Used For in Dauntless
In order to craft and upgrade your gear, you will need to hunt and obtain certain crafting materials from the behemoths you slay. To get a Galactic Shard you’ll need to slay the behemoth called Valomyr on the heroic difficulty. It will take some time before you even have the option to fight this monster.
It has a threat level of 16 which takes a lot of grinding to get to. You’ll need a power level of at least 500 to be able to go toe to toe with the Valomyr. It’s worth noting that it is apparently possible to get Galactic Shards from Valomyrs at threat level 8, but your chances of receiving these as a drop are significantly lower than their more powerful, Heroic variant.
The Valomyr is a pretty tricky monster to fight, but its weakness is the element called Umbral. So be sure to craft a weapon that is made of this element to inflict extra damage on your attacks.
After slaying the Behemoth it has a chance of dropping the Galactic Shard, so you will probably need to kill it a few times to get the amount needed.
What Galactic Shards Are Used For
The Galactic Shard is used to craft and upgrade the Valomyr weapon and armor set. So if you want to continue to improve this armor you’re going to need to hunt a lot of Valomyr on heroic. The heroic difficulty is the end game of Dauntless and will require patience and a well-coordinated team to take it down.
Specifically, you’ll need at least three Galactic Shards if you want to fully-upgrade any of the Valomyr weapons or armor listed down below. One is required to upgrade them to level 6, with a further two required to max it out to level 10.
