Today, during the Stadia Connect livestream, Larian Studios finally revealed Baldur’s Gate III.
The game will be the biggest game that Larian has ever made, and production values are defined as “very very high.”
“Developed by the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate III is the official next adventure in the venerable Baldur’s Gate series. The teaser trailer shows a return of a malevolent presence to Baldur’s Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms. The fate of the Forgotten Realms lies in your hands.”
At the moment we have no release window announcement (but Phil Harrison did mention that all the games showcased today , nor any reveal of further platforms.
Originally developed by BioWare, the Baldur’s Gate series is pretty much considered the quintessential western RPG franchise, for many good reasons. It debuted in 1998 with Baldur’s Gate, and received a sequel titled Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn in 2000.
Larian Studios is a Belgian developer that recently has conquered a lot of hearts among RPG fans with the Divinity: Original Sin series. If you’re curious, you can read our review of the second game of the popular franchise.
The reveal was more or less leaked through a code included in a recent tease, but it’s hard not to be excited for this even if we aren’t particularly surprised.
Update: the game will also come to PC, thankfully.
