Old university friends and two-man team Hopoo shared the news in a statement:

“First off, we are beyond excited to announce that Risk of Rain 2 has surpassed one million sales on Steam alone in the month following our Early Access launch! To give you guys a little bit of context, it took us almost five years to hit that same number on Steam for Risk of Rain 1. We are so excited to see how many of you are jumping into RoR 2 and bringing your friends with you, thank you all so much.”

The roguelike shooter is Hopoo’s first foray into the third dimension, after Deadbolt and the first Risk of Rain. The game came to Steam Early Access on March 28 for $20.

The first game released back in 2013 and was a sidescrolling roguelike. Its sequel hasn’t been out long but has already gained a reputation for being insanely fun and insanely challenging. You can play single or co-op as a group of up to four players as you journey through alien worlds, fighting your way through creatures and machines alike in search of precious loot.

Just last week Risk of Rain 2 had a content update that added new characters, bosses and stages, which is essential for keeping randomized levels fresh and engaging. Hopoo is anticipating roughly a year of continued development before getting a final release in 2020.
