Dauntless is a free-to-play action-RPG in which players are tasked with teaming up to slay giant monsters known as Behemoths. Killing these monsters grants materials like the Elemental Tailgem used to craft stronger gear to fight stronger monsters.
Not every material found from a monster is acquired through merely killing it. A big part of Dauntless is breaking parts of the Behemoth off, like its horns or tail. Here is how to get the Elemental Tailgem and what they’re used for in Dauntless.
How to Get Elemental Tailgem
To get the Elemental Tailgem, you’ll need to break off a Behemoth’s tail within the first two minutes of the fight. This can be tricky considering the monsters behave erratically.
The Elemental Tailgem will only drop from a Behemoth who is threat level 8 or better, making it a challenge.
You’re going to want to make sure you use a bladed weapon like the sword, axe, or chain blades, which will allow you to cut the tail off.
At this level, you also will need to communicate with your team to make sure everyone has a similar weapon to increase your chances of cutting off the tail.
What They’re Used For
The Elemental Tailgem is known as a reagent, which is used to craft specific levels of weapons and armor. In particular, it’s used in the following weapons:
- The Hunger
- Molten Edict
- The Godhand
It’s required for some of the higher level upgrades, so it’s essential to start grinding them out as soon as you are equipped to deal with threat level 8 Behemoths.
Get a party of four together and coordinate well to ensure you can get them as quickly as possible to avoid a significant grind.
