The Spring 2019 anime season is upon us, and there are some noteworthy shows aiming to command viewers’ attention. Some already stand out as top contenders though, and that’s why they’re the top six Spring 2019 anime to have on your watch list.
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2
6 Spring 2019 Anime to Have on Your Watch List
Attack on Titan is back, and it looks to bring fans into the fold with one of its most harrowing arcs yet.
Following the revelations of the last season, Eren Jaeger and his allies have all that they need to reclaim Shiganshina and achieve a decisive victory for humanity over the Titans.
All that remains for them to do is return to the lost city, seal the hole created by the Colossal Titan, and discover what hides within the basement of the Jaeger family home.
This is easier said than done though. The Colossal Titan and Armored Titan will be waiting for them, with the newly discovered Beast Titan backing them up.
It’ll be a bloody and violent battle before all is said and done, and there’s no telling who or how many might be lost in the process.
One Punch Man Season 2
6 Spring 2019 Anime to Have on Your Watch List
Following a lengthy hiatus, the One Punch Man anime is back for another hour of shonen action and apathetic humor.
After successfully saving the world from Boros, Saitama returns to his usual life of killing monsters in a single blow, tutoring Genos in the ways of heroics and otherwise staving off the boredom of being the strongest creature in existence.
All seems peaceful until the arrival of a new foe: Garou the Hero Hunter, a martial artist determined to defeat the world’s strongest heroes and become the strongest person around.
He’s defeated several of the world’s toughest heroes, leaving their broken bodies in his wake as he searches for new challenges.
The only one who can stop him is Saitama, though given that most of the world still doesn’t know he exists, it might be a while before the two can face off in earnest.
Admittedly, the animation for the second season might not be on par with the firsts for a bevy of reasons, there’s sure to be plenty of hijinks for fans to enjoy along the way.
Promare
6 Spring 2019 Anime to Have on Your Watch List
Promare is the latest creation from the minds at Studio Trigger, as well as a joint production with XFLAG, and it looks to be just as stylish and nonsensical as everyone would expect.
In a city beset by regular fires, peace and order are kept by the Burning Rescue Fire Department who pilot Matoi-Tech– special mech suits that allow them to combat the flames in otherwise harrowing and life threatening situations.
Galo, a young man with dreams of extinguishing all wrong-doing, acts as the film’s protagonist, joining the force before being dragged into a conflict with the fire-wielding mutants known as the Burnish.
Only by working together with his newfound comrades in the Department does he have a hope of overcoming them and, with any luck, uncovering why they sought to cause such chaos in the first place.
There’s still not a whole lot of information about the title, but given the stellar animation and art shown in its promotional trailers and images, there’s plenty of reason to be hopeful that it’ll be good.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 3
6 Spring 2019 Anime to Have on Your Watch List
Bungo Stray dogs is back and better than ever, set to bring fans a new slew of challenges and dilemmas for its ability using characters to overcome.
Following their clash with the Guild, Atsushi, Dazai, and the rest of the Armed Detective Agency hope to return to their usual duties, while Akutagawa and the Port Mafia wish to do the same.
However, a new threat has emerged to cause chaos and destruction in their city: Fyodor Dostoevsky, a man with the singular purpose of cleansing Yokohama of sinners.
Alongside his allies, he aims to spread his influence across the city and manipulate the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia however he wishes, reveling in the violence that could ensue.
To that end, both factions must once again enter the fray, deal with this new threat, and try to gain the upper hand on one another lest the balance of the city be irrevocably altered.
Fruits Basket
6 Spring 2019 Anime to Have on Your Watch List
The shoujo hit Fruits Basket is back and better than ever, receiving the Brotherhood treatment for a full adaptation of its story.
Tohru Honda, a young girl who lost her mother in an accident, finds herself living on her own until a chance encounter with her classmate Yuki Soma. Seeing her situation, he invites her to stay at his family home.
It’s here that she meets the other members of Yuki’s family and, after accidentally falling into his cousin Kyo, learns of their ancient secret: Whenever they make contact with the opposite sex, they turn into animals from the Chinese Zodiac.
The Soma family has learned to live in isolation with this curse, and as a result have given up on living normal lives.
Seeing this, Tohru sets out to help them break their curse, helping them through their own personal issues that stem from it along the way.
Some solutions might lead to laughs, while others lead to tears, but by the end, the Soma family might learn to hope for a better life once again.
Kimetsu no Yaiba
6 Spring 2019 Anime to Have on Your Watch List
In a secluded village, Tanjirou and his family live in relative peace following the death of their parents. Though it’s a rough life, they manage to scrape by and care about each other above all else.
As such, it’s all the more heartbreaking when Tanjirou returns home one day to find his family slaughtered by demons; save for his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a ravenous demon herself.
And yet, despite this change, Nezuko shows signs of humanity still linger within her, with her visibly fighting her flesh-eating desires to remain at least partially human.
Seeing this, Tanjirou sets out to find a way to cure her, drawing the attention of demons and demon hunters alike. He’ll have to fight his way through each in equal measure, potentially even facing off against the demons who turned her in the first place.
It’s a fairly straight forward premise, but it’s also one which leaves plenty of room for gut wrenching drama alongside intense battles between Tanjirou and the many factions in the world.
Plus, if Crunchyroll’s official teaser trailer‘s animation is anything to go off of, it’ll be a treat for the eyes all the way through.
