Over this weekend it was revealed that a new Lego Star Wars game is in development. Skywalker Sound’s Matt Wood mentioned during a Star Wars Celebration live interview that among the many upcoming Star Wars properties the sound design studio was working on, such as Episode 9, The Mandalorian, and a new Clone Wars season, there was a new addition to the Lego Star Wars game series in the works. You can watch a snippet of the interview below.

There’s no word of confirmation yet from the Lego games’ publisher Warner Bros., but as Skywalker Sound is Disney’s official audio company for the Star Wars franchise, it’s safe to say that Wood’s speaking the truth.

The Lego Star Wars game series has become a massively popular franchise unto itself, even more so than other games under the Lego umbrella. The franchise has so far adapted not just the original and prequel film trilogies, but the Clone Wars TV series and has even touched on the newest Sequel trilogy.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens managed to score a whole game to itself and was the last Lego Star Wars game to come out. While future adaptations of the epic space opera’s next two episodes – The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker – are are pretty much certain, there’s rumour that this newest title will include these stories but be something much more ambitious.

With no word yet from Warner Bros., a future release date is pure speculation, but circulating rumours suggest we could possibly look forward to a release later this year.
