Set in the Pacific Northwest following an outbreak of some kind, Days Gone‘s world is full of freakers, but the bandit enemies often put up more of a threat as a result of their higher intelligence. Here’s everything you need to know about how to use the binoculars and tag enemies in Days Gone.

Since much of your time with Days Gone will be spent roaming the decaying world, trying to complete missions and survive, getting the leg up on your enemies is vital. Whether you’re infiltrating an enemy base or trying to escape, tagging enemies allows you to keep track of their movements and get away safely.

Using the Binoculars & Tagging Enemies

To use the binoculars in the game, you need to bring them up to use them. To do so, press Up on the d-pad, allowing you to mark enemies locations with R2.

As you or the enemies move, the little red diamond indicator that appears will move with them so that you can keep track of their positions and attack with that in mind.

Why Tagging Is Useful in Days Gone

When you tag a human enemy with the binoculars, you can see their awareness levels. When you get close to them, you can see whether they’re aware of your movements and will attack once it reaches a certain point. It’s very useful to tag enemies before you try to sneak past them.

You can see how aware of you they are by the color of the little diamond. It fills yellow as they become suspicious and will flash red once they completely realize that you’re nearby. Once it starts slashing, they’ll quickly start attacking.
