Diving into The Division 2 can be a little daunting. It’s got a bunch of weapon stats, skills, perks, and a sprawling open world all to take in while you’re shooting your way through countless enemies. To give you a helping hand, here are seven things to do first in The Division 2.
This first entry isn’t all that exciting, we’ll admit. Ubisoft Club is part of the Uplay service that tracks your progress in Ubisoft’s games and grants you rewards for doing so. As such, if you’ve been playing a fair amount of Assassin’s Creed or other titles, you’ll have likely racked up a good few points that can be spent on Division 2 goodies.
We’re not talking about those wallpaper backgrounds (get in the bin!), but you’ll be able to nab yourself some really handy in-game items.
For example, with only a fraction of the points we’ve accrued on our account, we were able to nab an E-Credits Currency Pack, Specialized Materials Pack, Standard Materials Pack, Target Intel Pack, a number of different outfits, and even a badass Specialized MPX SMG that’s pretty helpful during the opening stages of The Division 2.
Not all of this requires you to spend Uplay points (or whatever they’re called) either. Plenty of this is free and simply requires you to go and download them from within the ‘Club’ option on The Division 2’s main menu. Perfect Your Character
Once you start a new game in The Division 2, you’ll almost immediately be tasked with creating your character. There’s a plethora of different face styles to choose from and you can even customize tiny details such as the depth of your character’s brows, the tattoos they sport and more.
While you’ll be able to change your character’s appearance at a later stage in the game, it’s always worth spending some time to make sure you’re looking suave and stylish before you start dealing out the pain on your mission.
We know, you’re eager to take down the rival factions trying to take control of D.C. in The Division 2, but you don’t want your character looking as generic and boring as ours above, do you? We thought not.

Explore Everywhere
Upon reaching the White House and going through the opening tutorial in The Division 2, the game’s world opens up a whole lot more. You can head south back the way you came through the tutorial, or you can head east towards your next main objective.
It can be tempting enough to make a bee-line for that main objective, but rather than doing that, explore your surroundings. There are plenty of buildings just south of the White House that you likely missed during the tutorial that actually have a bunch of crates containing handy gear and items that’ll give you the upper hand in combat.
Not to mention, during the main mission in the hotel, you’ll come across one of these Hyenas Crates (pictured above). If you head immediately south of The White House, you can access the underground system of tunnels. In here, you’ll be able to find what look like breaker boxes on the wall, which, when you loot, contain the various faction keys.
These faction keys, such as a Hyenas Key, will grant you the ability to open these crates when you come across them, which just so happen to have powerful gear and rare items.
You won’t come across a Hyenas Key otherwise during the main mission you can find this crate within the hotel, so exploring before playing this mission can save you having to replay the mission.

Plan Out Your Perks & Skills
The Division 2 has a bunch of perks and skills that can help you fine-tune your Agent to suit your play style. Whether you like to be the glass cannon, or the healer, you’ll find something that lends itself to how you want to play.
Problem is, there are so many skills and perks that all cost Skill Unlocks and SHD Tech that you can be overwhelmed with the option and make some poor choices in the heat of the moment.
As such, it’s always worth spending just a few minutes when you first reach the Quartermaster in The Division 2 taking note of what all the skills and perks do and which are most important to you to unlock first.
We’ve got a list of the best perks to get first in Division 2 to give you an idea of where to start, but after that, the world of Division 2’s skills and perks is your metaphorical oyster.
Things to Do First in The Division 2
Get a Group Together
It is possible to play through The Division 2 alone, and yours truly does exactly that most of the time (lone wolf crew, y’all), but it cannot be refuted that playing The Division 2 with other players is the best way to play.
“But why?” I hear my fellow lone wolves cry. Simply put, by playing with other players, The Division 2 will reward you with more XP, enabling you to level up your character faster and reach the end game, where the real fun begins.
Not only that, but by playing with others, The Division 2 will ramp up the difficulty, with enemies being scaled to the level of the highest-leveled player in your group. This can make it difficult if you’re only just starting out and your friend is a good few levels ahead, but if you’re all around the same level, it makes for a more challenging experience.
If none of your real-life friends are able to assist you in your missions, fear not. Unlocking the Clans option comes fairly early on in The Division 2, and has a bunch of options and search criteria to help you find the perfect group for you. You can search for PvP or PvE-focused groups, clans in particular regions, and their usual active hours.
Things to Do First in The Division 2
Deconstruct Old Weapons and Gear
It won’t take long for you to be able to sell your old, unwanted weapons and gear to the Vendor in The Division 2. Once you reach the White House, you’ll be able to do exactly that (not like you’ll have much at this point, though).
While it’s always nice to fill your pockets with some cash, you’re better off deconstructing your old weapons and gear, instead. By deconstructing any weapons and gear that you’re no longer using in The Division 2, you’ll get yourself crafting materials.
For now, they’ll just be basic, but if you get the Deconstruction 2 perk early on, you’ll have a chance for a rare material to be awarded. These are imperative for getting yourself the best weapons in The Division 2, and can normally only be found in the open world or are dropped by enemies, making them a bit harder to come across.
Even prior to nabbing this perk, deconstructing old weapons and gear for these materials will come in particularly handy when you start amassing various blueprints for better weapons and gear. It’s okay to sell weapons and gear occasionally, but deconstruction should be your first port of call.
Things to Do First in The Division 2
Check Out Photo Mode
The Division 2 is certainly a pretty game, and so it makes sense that it has a pretty robust photo mode that you can use to snap some beautiful shots amidst all the chaos. The photo mode can be accessed by pressing the Options/ Menu buttons and then pressing and holding Square on PS4 or X on Xbox One.
If you’re a particular fan of photo modes, you’re sure to have fun getting the perfect snapshot of your Agent dealing out the pain to rival faction goons, or destroying some rival player in the Dark Zone. It’s always there when you need it, so be sure to make use of it and immortalize your finest moments in The Division 2.
