What Happened to The Deputy (Rook) from Far Cry 5 in Far Cry New Dawn

Recommended Videos

In Far Cry 5, players assumed the role of ‘The Deputy’, the sheriff tasked with bringing Joseph Seed in before all hell broke loose. Well, with Far Cry 5’s ending leaving things open, and Far Cry New Dawn promising to offer fans some closure, a lot of you are probably wondering: what happened to the Deputy (Rook) in Far Cry New Dawn?

Before we go any further, we should note that yes, we are going to dive into some Far Cry New Dawn spoilers here. It’s not enough to ruin the entire story, but it does reveal a few bits from the mid-section of Far Cry New Dawn’s narrative that you might want to uncover on your own.

*** Spoilers Ahead ***

While Far Cry New Dawn was touted as providing answers to the questions players had about Hope County and its inhabitants at the end of Far Cry 5, when it comes to the Deputy, the game doesn’t really refer to him all that often.

As you progress through Far Cry New Dawn’s story, you’ll find yourself revisiting Dutch’s bunker. That familiar place from the start of Far Cry 5, as well as the place both Joseph Seed and the Deputy end up at following the encounter at Joseph’s compound.

During this Far Cry New Dawn mission, you’ll be able to head inside the bunker, and it’s here that players can find a short note. The note is written by Joseph Seed, and is only short, detailing how the Deputy was ‘guilty-ridden.’ Seed goes on that he tried to ‘forgive’ them and show them God’s plan (cue the song by Drake).

Exactly what this means, we’re not entirely sure. Was the Deputy converted to become a loyal follower of Seed? Did Seed put him out of his misery? Or is he still alive out there, somewhere?

Sadly, that was the only reference to the Deputy we found during our time in Far Cry New Dawn so far. If we happen to find an additional note about the fate of the Deputy from Far Cry 5, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know.

It’s worth noting that once you’ve completed this mission in Far Cry New Dawn, you’re unable to return to the bunker to explore it. As such, if you want to read the note for yourself, make sure you have a thorough look around before advancing any further.

Far Cry New Dawn might not have all the answers to the Deputy fans were hoping for, but it’s something, at least.
