Tasked with solving crimes committed by ability users, the Agency serves as an underground task force comprised of individuals who want to use there own special abilities for good, whether that means healing the ill or taking on criminal organizations.
While this setup may sound like typical shonen fare, the dilemmas it presents through its characters help it shine as something special.
How people deal with the isolation that comes from being different, and how they can grow when they are offered companionship and acceptance, are particularly well handled and leave you rooting for the heroes and villains alike to find a better life.
Throw in a slew of literary references and nods for book lovers and you’ve got a series that is well worth returning to when ever a new season pops up.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure can be a lot to take in, but it’s well worth the effort once you do.
Starting off as a tale of an English nobleman hunting down his adopted brother turned vampire and only getting crazier from there, the series revels in being able to do whatever it wants whenever it wants.
And yet it manages to make all of this insanity interesting and worth watching, even with an ever-changing cast of characters and new story arcs.
Whether the main characters are traveling across Egypt to hunt down the reanimated corpse of the hero’s great-great grandfather or doing battle with a time traveling serial killer, each new arc is just as good as the last and will keep you glued to your seat.
It’s all the more impressive that it has maintained this over the course of more than 150 episodes, and looks to be able to hold up the momentum for 150 episodes more.
If you do check it out, it won’t be long before you’re caught up to the current arc and are eagerly waiting for the next new episode to air.

A Standout among Netflix’s anime offerings, Kakegurui is over indulgent and bombastic in all the right ways.
The plot sees the enigmatic Yumeko Jabami shake up the order of a school where high stakes gambling decides disputes between students.
Minor squabbles are solved with quick card games and wagers, while bigger issues can escalate into playing games of Russian Roulette. It’s all very over the top, but that’s exactly what makes it so fun.
Everything, from the art style and animation to the situations the characters have to work their way out of, are amped up as much as possible to give off a sense of extreme stakes and excess.
By the end of each episode, you’ll have gotten as much of a rush out of the series’ events as the characters have, and you’ll wish the next season could be released even the tiniest bit faster.

Attack on Titan
Though it may not be as much of a juggernaut as it was when it first premiered, Attack on Titan continues to be a series well worth keeping up with through all of its twists and turns.

Season two took on horror vibes thanks to the show’s cast being trapped in a castle sans their gear by an onslaught of titans, only for things to become a game of political espionage and intrigue by season three.

To do so however, they’ll need to outwit the adults who care for them, plotting an escape and gathering the materials they’ll need while maintaining a facade of their former, carefree demeanors.
It’s equal parts inventive, terrifying and thrilling, and nails a balance most haven’t seen from anime since the likes of Death Note had taken the world by storm.
It’s no surprise, then, that anime fans of all stripes are sining the show’s praises, and that it’s easily a show worth hoping on the band wagon for sooner rather than later.

Black Clover
While its pacing may not be ideal for all viewers, Black Clover has steadily grown into an anime worth diving into.
Focused on the hotheaded Asta and his journey to become the next Wizard King, the series doesn’t appear to have much that differentiates itself from other shonen anime.
There are over the top fights, new friendships formed constantly and story twists both surprising and easily deduced, all of which could easily be found in One Piece, Naruto or the like.
At the same time however, Black Clover manages to execute many of these norms and aspects better than most. With each new court of episodes, the show does better and better at presenting its plot and the struggles the characters experience to achieve their dreams.
Things like Asta’s transformations and abilities, and the hard fought victories he manages alongside his allies, have all gotten closer and closer to measuring up to the greats of shonen anime with each passing anime, and look to only keep improving going forward.

Boruto
The longer Boruto has gone on, the more firmly it has cemented itself as a viable and enjoyable part of the Naruto series’ canon.
Focused on the adventures of Naruto’s son Boruto, the series captures the initial wonder and sense of progression found in the earlier arcs of the Naruto anime’s run.
World-ending conflicts and plots aren’t nearly as prevalent. Instead, it focuses on Boruto and his classmates’ struggles to become proper ninja, training and carrying out missions in the name of making themselves stronger and more skilled.
It’s not quite as adrenaline pumping as where the Naruto series left off, but its more grounded approach helps to rekindle the feeling of watching a cast of characters grow and change right in front of you the way Naruto originally did all those years ago.
Admittedly, it can be a little intimidating to hop into now – the show is already nearly at 100 episodes – but given how long it’ll be going on for, it’s well worth adding this promising addition to the Naruto series to your watch list.

The Seven Deadly Sins
Another Netflix exclusive anime that has proven well worth watching, The Seven Deadly Sins remains a worthwhile shonen offering with plenty more still in store for fans.
Set in the land of Britannia, the series sees seven legendary warriors known as the Seven Deadly Sins return from a lengthy exile to save the kingdom from all manner of threats.
This ranges from a corrupt knight’s attempt to seize the throne and take over the country to an all out war against a newly risen army of demons.
It’s certainly material that could be unmemorable shonen fodder, but thanks to the way the show handles it, it’s a fantastical romp full of fun character interactions and memorable fight scenes.
It helps that the show’s art style and great animation make it a sight to behold, with a color palette and silky smooth animation at most every crucial scene.
It’s a shonen series well worth taking a look at if you haven’t already, and with the promising direction the series will be taking in future seasons, it’ll be well worth it to be caught up for what’s in store.
