More and more remakes are offering a feature that lets you listen to the original soundtrack while experiencing the new and improved visuals and gameplay. Resident Evil 2 is the latest game to incorporate this feature. Here’s how to change to the original soundtrack and sound effects in Resident Evil 2.

While the new soundtrack undoubtedly has its merits, there’s always something cool about going back to listen to classic video game music of the past, especially if you played the original game way back when.

Calling the original Resident Evil 2’s soundtrack “classic” doesn’t mean that it’s full of bloops and bleeps. The original PlayStation was quite revolutionary for sound in video games.

The PlayStation’s sound processing was so good that people even opted to use it as their CD player of choice. The original Resident Evil 2’s soundtrack still holds up amazingly well, evoking the same terror that it did 20 years ago.

Not only will the original sound mode swap out the soundtrack but also the sound effects. There’s nothing that gets the nostalgia going more than some vintage sound effects. There are a few caveats to know before you can switch over to the original soundtrack.

This feature is currently exclusive to owners of the Deluxe Edition or Collector’s Edition of Resident Evil 2. If you bought the game physically, redeeming the included code will allow you access to the original soundtrack.

It should be noted that availability of the physical Deluxe Edition is a little puzzling. As of writing, this edition is unavailable to purchase from Amazon US, and it doesn’t seem to be releasing at all in the UK.

The original Resident Evil 2 soundtrack will be available to download at a later date. However, the details of this aren’t known as of yet.

For those who did manage to obtain the soundtrack DLC, here is how to access it.

At any point of the game, press the Options button on PS4 or the Menu button on Xbox One to bring up the menu. Choose Audio and scroll down to the bottom. The bottom option will allow you to cycle between Remake and Original, the latter of which is the option you want selected.

That’s all there is to know about how to change to the original soundtrack and sound effects in Resident Evil 2. For more on the game, be sure to check out our wiki.
