Today Kadokawa Games announced that its strategy JRPG God Wars: Future Past shipped over 200,000 copies worldwide following the release of the updated version God Wars: The Complete Legend.
The achievement combines shipped physical copies for PS4, PS Vita, and Nintendo Switch, and units sold via digital download on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop.
If you’re unfamiliar with God Wars, it was first released for PS4 and PS Vita in 2017, while The Complete Legend last September added a Nintendo Switch version and several improvements.
It’s a fairly complex old-school strategy JRPG focused on traditional Japanese folklore. A sequel simply titled (for now) God Wars 2 is already in the works. At the moment very little is known about the game, besides the fact that it’ll feature the transition between the world of the gods (kami) and the world of humans.
Kadokawa Games is definitely quite serious about expanding the legacy of strategy JRPGs, especially thanks to the personal commitment of its president Yoshimi Yasuda, who really loves the genre.
We recently learned that another game of the genre for consoles, Project Stella, will be released this year, and we saw the first screenshot. It’s developed by the original team behind Front Mission for Super Famicom.
