Fortnite is mostly about trying to be the last one standing out of the 100 players that drop onto the island. However, if you’re working through the weekly challenges in the game, you may need to dance. Here’s how to dance in Fortnite on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile.

Let’s start off by explaining that the various dances you can do in Fortnite are actually referred to in-game as emotes. This is also the name given to the little emote icons that your character can throw up just above their heads, but using one of those in a challenge isn’t going to count.

To dance in Fortnite, you’ll need to first go to your Locker from the lobby screen. Once here, go down to the emote slots on the second row and ensure you’ve got at least one ‘dance’ emote selected.

Every player has one of these, as you have the ‘Dance Moves’ common emote from the very beginning. Once you’ve got this selected, you’re ready to head into a game.

Now’s the time to actually dance in Fortnite. We’ve broken down what you need to do to dance in Fortnite on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile in handy bullet points for you below.

  • Xbox One & PS4 – Press Down on the D-Pad. Select your dance emote with the right analog stick, and press A on Xbox One or X on PS4 to select it and begin dancing.
  • Nintendo Switch – Press Down on the D-Pad. Select your dance emote with the right analog stick, and press A to begin dancing.
  • PC – Press B on your keyboard to bring up the emote wheel. Select the dance you want to use with your mouse and you’ll begin dancing away.
  • Mobile – Look for an ‘I’ in a speech bubble in the top right corner of your screen. Tap this to bring up the emote wheel and select the dance you want to do.

There’s not really a whole lot else you need to know to get your groove on in Fortnite. If you’re looking to get more emotes in Fortnite, you can do so by either working your way through the free or paid Battle Passes or by purchasing them from the Item Shop from the lobby screen.
