While Sony Interactive Entertainment has been opening to cross-platform multiplayer, Dead or Alive 6 will keep communities separate at launch. In order to know whether it could be implemented in the future, Twinfinite asked Director and Producer Yohei Shimbori during a press event in London.
He explained that while he’s keen on the idea, there are voices among the community that might not be as enthusiastic.
“Actually having cross-platform gameplay is one of my long-term dreams, and I am aware that games like Fortnite and Rocket League finally made the first steps on cross-play. Yet, based on my experience there might also be some voices within the DOA fanbase that don’t like it that much.
There was a cross-play feature between the Vita and PS3 in Dead or Alive 5, but there were voices among the PS3 payers who didn’t want to play with PS Vita players.”
Asked whether it’s an issue of frame rate and performance, Shimbori-san confirmed and mentioned that there are other issues involved. After those are solved, he plans to consider the possibility.
“It’s also a matter of performance. When a low-spec PC gets involved there might be a loss of some frames. In fighting games when you get to an advanced level, every frame counts. People are very displeased by the loss of even a single frame. These issues already appear in online gaming, and if cross-platform is involved it might become even more dfficult.
This is one issue. There are other issues as well. Once these are figured out, we’ll definitely want to take a look at it.”

Dead or Alive 6 has recently been slightly delayed and is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 1.
