One of the biggest surprise announcements of The Game Awards 2018 was the sudden reveal of Mortal Kombat XI, promptly announced in the middle of the award for Best Sports/Racing game.
A stunningly violent trailer played, displaying a brutal battle between Scorpion and Raiden. This was just a cinematic reveal, but clearly the series is only getting more and more ridiculous in terms of violence and fatalities.
While this was just a brief reveal, fans can expect a lot more soon. The official community reveal event will happen on Jan. 17, 2019. Meanwhile, the game will see a worldwide launch on April 23, 2019. Interestingly, the last screen of the trailer has logos for the systems it’ll be on, which even includes Nintendo Switch.
The official video description has a few interesting tidbits of info, including new Custom Character Variations that will be making its way to the game. Here it is via WB Games,
“The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.”
Pre-orders for Mortal Kombat XI will start on Dec. 7, tomorrow, and players that pre-order will get access to Shao Kahn as a playable character, as well as beta access.
