How to Play Stardew Valley Multiplayer on Nintendo Switch

Recommended Videos

Stardew Valley offers up some of the finest farming sim action you could possibly ask for right now, and it feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch. While farming on your own is fun and all, sometimes you might want to go tending your livestock and harvesting crops alongside a friend out in the fields. Here’s how to play Stardew Valley multiplayer on Nintendo Switch.

First off, it’s worth noting that Stardew Valley’s multiplayer on Nintendo Switch offers both local and online options. We’ve broken down the general steps you’ll need to take in order to host and play Stardew Valley’s multiplayer in either of those modes down below.

However, a little further down the page, we’ve gone into more detail should you need it on how to join a friend’s multiplayer game on Stardew Valley on Switch, too.

How to Host a Multiplayer Game on Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch

  • From the main menu, select the Co-Op option.
  • If you’re playing with another friend online, you’ll need to select the Online Communication option. For local co-op, you’re selecting the Local Communication option.
  • You’ll then be brought to a screen allowing you to Join any Stardew Valley multiplayer games. Select which game you want to join. Alternatively, if you want to host the multiplayer session on Stardew Valley, select the Host option in the top left-hand corner.
  • Next, choose the Profit Margin (how the money is divided between you and your friends), and how many Starting Cabins you want there to be in your town.
  • Fill out your character and town details, press Ok, and you’re good to start playing Stardew Valley multiplayer.

How to Join a Multiplayer Game on Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch

  • From the main menu, select the Co-Op option.
  • Choose either the Local or Online Communication option depending on if you’re playing online with a friend or in local co-op.
  • You’ll then be brought to a Join screen. Here, the multiplayer farms of anyone on your Nintendo Switch friends list will show up when they’re hosting a game.
  • Press A on the friend’s farm that you want to join from the list, and select A New Farmer on the following screen (or your name if you’ve joined before). Check our screenshot below for what you’re looking out for.
  • Enter your character details and press Ok and you’ll soon be brought into your friends Stardew Valley multiplayer game.

Outside of following the above instructions, there’s not a whole lot else you really need to know to get going. We did think it was worth noting a couple of additional pointers, though, just to give you a helping hand.

First, if you want to play Stardew Valley’s multiplayer on Nintendo Switch, you’re going to need a Nintendo Online Subscription. If you don’t have one, you cannot even access the Join menu within Online Connection shown in the image above.

We’d also suggest always having enough Starting Cabins when creating your own game for however many of your friends you want to play with. Each guest player must have a cabin in order to play. If you don’t choose to have multiple starting cabins within this menu, you’ll have to build them by going to speak to Robin. They cost 100 Gold and 10 Stone, however, so at least it’s not going to take an age to get the materials together.
