Today Cloud Imperium Games released a public roadmap for the single player version of Star Citizen, Squadron 42.

According to the roadmap, the game will enter an alpha phase in the first quarter of 2020. A beta phase will follow in the second quarter of the same year.

The developer released a video in which Director Chris Roberts explains the ins and outs of the roadmap, and you can watch it at the bottom of the post. You can also enjoy trailers for the new ships to be released in alpha 3.4, which is going to be released soon.

Interestingly, we also get some financial information about Cloud Imperium Games itself. First of all, the developer released detailed financials between 2012 and through 2017.

On top of that, since the idea behind crowdfunding is that nearly all the money raised from backers is to be used in development, Cloud Imperium Games is welcoming external investment from  Clive and Keith Calder. The investment will be used to pay for the game’s marketing and release needs, and it amounts to $46 million for approximately 10% of the shares in the Cloud Imperium’s US and UK companies.

While two new board members (Dan Offner and  Eli Klein) will be introduced as a consequence of the investment, Roberts stresses that the Calders only own a minority share in the studios, and control of the company remains with himself.

If you want some insight on why so many support the game with so much of their hard-earned money, you can check out my extensive article on the topic and see some raw gameplay and screenshots. You can also check out a recent video showing upcoming content.

Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign is currently at $211,493,489 with 2,201,958 registered users.

For the sake of full disclosure, keep in mind that the author of this post is one of the backers mentioned above.
