Red Dead Online: How to Get the Fishing Rod

How to Get the Fishing Rod in Red Dead Online

Recommended Videos

Just like the main game, the world of Red Dead Online is filled with different things for you to see and do. Whether it’s cooperative missions with friends, free roaming for stranger missions, or just kicking back for a spot of fishing, you can do whatever you want. Of course, if you want to go fishing you’ll first need a fishing rod, which we can help with. Here’s how to get the fishing rod in Red Dead Online.

There are essentially two different ways of getting the fishing rod in Red Dead Online, one that involves ranking up and one that involves purchasing it. By far the easiest way is to simply wait until you’ve reached the proper rank, which is Rank 14.

It might take a while, but you’ll automatically get the fishing rod and some live worms as a rank reward for reaching Rank 14. After this, you’ll be able to purchase more bait from the bait shop at Lagras.

The alternative way to get the fishing rod is by purchasing it from the handheld catalog. You can access this catalog by holding down left on the d-pad, but the fishing rod will cost you a hefty four gold bars. These can take quite a while to earn, with 100 Gold Nuggets making up a single Gold Bar, so you might be better off just reaching Rank 14.

Once the game’s in-game store goes live, however, you’ll be able to purchase gold bars with real money. There currently isn’t a date for when the in-game shop might go live, but once there is we’ll make sure to update this article.

Fishing itself works exactly the same in Red Dead Online as it does in the main game of Red Dead Redemption 2.
