Red Dead Online: Is It Cross Play Compatible? What You Need to Know

Is Red Dead Online Cross Play Compatible? What You Need to Know

Recommended Videos

It has now been a month since Red Dead Redemption 2 released and the long wait for the launch of Red Dead Online is now over. Starting with Ultimate Edition owners, you can now jump into the Wild West with friends. Here’s everything you need to know about whether Red Dead Online is Cross Play Compatible. The mode is finally in beta testing.

Unfortunately, Red Dead Online is not cross play compatible at all. Since Red Dead Redemption 2 only came to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, those are the only two platforms you’d ever be able to cross play with and since they don’t traditionally play well together, it’s not possible.

The same has always been the case for Rockstar’s other hugely popular online mode, GTA Online. Since it originally launched around five years ago, on more platforms that Red Dead Redemption 2 did, it has not supported Cross Play. PC, Xbox One, and PS4 players have all had to play with others on the same platform.

Other games do offer the option of cross play, even with PS4, the most notable of which being Fortnite. However, it’s far from the case with all online titles, for a variety of reasons.

However, you can never say never when it comes to cross play and online games.

Since Red Dead Online is technically still in beta, meaning it’s being tested by a select group of people in order to work out the flaws in the experience, more could be added to it in the future.

If Sony and Microsoft ever change their stance and allow cross play on more titles, and Rockstar adds cross play to Red Dead Online, we will be sure to update you here. Don’t hold your breath for that happening any time soon, however.

That’s all there is to know about whether Red Dead Online is Cross Play Compatible.
