How to Check IVs in Pokemon Let’s Go
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee may have been streamlined quite a bit to cater to the GO audience, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get into competitive battles if you really want to. Individual Values, or IVs for short, are important to keep track of when raising a competitive Pokemon. As such, here’s how to check your pocket monster’s IVs in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee.
Just like in past games in the series, there is an NPC that you can talk to in order to check your Pokemon’s IVs.
Once you’ve talked to the NPC, just follow these steps:
- Press X to open the menu
- Select Bag, then Pokemon Box
- Select the Pokemon you want to examine, then click on the Summary option
- From here, press the Y button to view more detailed stats and their IVs
Where the IV Judge Is
To find the IV judge, you’ll want to head to Vermillion City and find the gateway building leading to Route 11. Once inside, head upstairs and talk to the NPC dressed like one of Professor Oak’s lab aides. He’ll let you know that you can check your Pokemon’s potential by reading their summary pages. Please note, however, that you’ll need to capture 30 species before the NPC gives you the judge function.
Now, open your menu with the X button, head to the Bag, and open up the Pokemon Box. Select the Pokemon you want to examine, then press A and choose the Summary option.
Here, you’ll get a brief overview of your pocket monster’s nature. However, you can press the Y button here, and you’ll see how their stats are spread out on the right side of the screen.
The game will let you know if the creature’s IVs are good, with brief descriptors like “Best,” “OK,” or “Not So Good.” If you’re hoping to raise a competitive monster for online battles, you’ll need to know which stats to keep in mind depending on which Pokemon you’re raising, then check its stats immediately after capturing it to see how it would fare in the future.
Just as a tip: while you can catch Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle out in the wild, their IVs are usually less than ideal. Instead of catching them wild, you can get them from NPCs located in Cerulean City, Route 24, and in Vermillion City respectively.
It’s also worth noting that your starter Pikachu or Eevee, depending on which version of the game you’re playing, will also have perfect IVs.
