TMZ originally reported that Lee was rushed to the hospital early Monday morning and later died. Also noted in the original report is that Lee has suffered from illnesses recently, specifically pneumonia and vision related problems.

Marvel as we know it today was founded by Stan Lee, alongside Jack Kirby in 1961. Over time, Marvel would be regarded as one of the premiere comic book publications, and eventually grew into a brand that Disney valued and purchased for $4 billion.

Although he never worked in gaming specifically, his characters are just as known in video games as well. Most recently, Marvel’s Spider-Man developed by Insomniac and published by Sony, was released to critical acclaim.

Marvel is still a force in the comic book industry, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most popular and lucrative film franchises currently. Stan Lee’s creations are still the crown jewel of everything Marvel is known for in 2018, and certainly the foreseeable future.

Stan Lee is survived by his daughter J. C. Lee, and we wish her and the rest of Lee’s extended family and friends our deepest sympathies.
