How to Turn Off Audio Logs in Fallout 76

Here’s everything you need to know about how to turn off audio logs in Fallout 76.

Audio logs have always played an important role in the Fallout series, serving as both a way to tell simple side stories and also as ways of conveying pieces of lore that help amplify the world’s setting and lore. Fallout 76 leans on them even more, as its world is more dependent on interactions with other players than it is in-game characters.

But sometimes gamers just want to play Fallout so they can explore a barren wasteland, loot, and kill creatures. As such, audio logs aren’t important to them, and many would rather simply turn them off. Here is what you need to know about turning off audio logs in Fallout 76.

Main Story Importance

In Fallout 76, audio logs are essential to telling you the main story. This begins right at the start of the game, as the Vault’s Overseer leaves a holotape audio log at your terminal or with Pennington for him to give to you.

This tape divulges that the leader needs the player’s assistance in order to complete a dangerous task. It begins playing automatically, revealing that she is scouting Appalachia for important nuclear silos.

These logs are the main way the Overseer will communicate with players throughout the story, leaving them as a trail of breadcrumbs for the player to find and follow.

Alongside the main mission tapes, you’ll start to find, collect, and play logs that give you other missions. Some can be found on corpses – even telling specific stories to those corpses called Survivor Stories – while many will be found in lockers and other lootable storage.

Can You Turn Off Holotapes

Unfortunately, audio logs can’t be turned off in Fallout 76. They will begin playing as soon as you pick them up. On the bright side, you can simply play the holotapes in the background and go about your day until they finish.

If you do feel like accessing them at any point though, all you need to do is open up you pip-boy and scroll over to the ITEM tab. Once you do, you can replay any holotape you’ve picked up and they will continue to play once you exit the pip-boy.
