How to Reload in Fallout 76
Here’s everything you need to know about how to reload in Fallout 76.
While much of Fallout 76 has changed, moving away from the classic single-player RPG experience, becoming an always online shared world game, a lot of the general controls and ideas have stayed the same.
The crafting and base building elements that were divisive in Fallout 4 have made their way over and play quite an important role in Bethesda’s new game, and you still roam the wasteland in search of items and enemies to take on.
In terms of basic controls, such as reload, almost everything is as you’d expect. To reload in Fallout 76, all you need to do is press X/Square, for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 respectively. This will see you reload your weapon, no matter which you have equipped. Unless it’s a melee weapon, of course. Don’t try reloading a melee weapon… you can’t reload ’em.
If you’re here, you may want to get a few other basic pointers on Fallout 76’s controls, so we’ve run you through some more of them down below.
Other Fallout 76 Basic Controls
To sprint in Fallout 76, helping you escape monsters and other players, all you need to do is press in the left thumbstick and run in the direction you want to go.
To jump in the game, you simply need to press triangle if you’re on PlayStation 4 or Y if you’re on Xbox One. You’ll quickly leap over whatever is in front of you. However, keep in mind that this requires AP, and so if you’ve been using a lot of VATS or running around you may not be able to do this all that much.
If you’re trying to avoid enemies or other players, the best thing to do is crouch. To do so, push in the right thumbstick and move around slowly with the left stick. You’ll know if you’ve been detected by looking at the indicator at the top of the screen. Hidden is shown by the word being displayed in yellow and detected is shown by the word in red.
Melee attacks are vital in Fallout 76 because you’ll not always have the ammo you need to kill particular enemies. To melee attack, you need to press R1/RB if you have a gun equipped and no grenades equipped. Alternatively, you can press R2/RT (what you’d usually press to shoot) if you have a bat or other melee weapon equipped.
Finally, you’ll need to know how to use VATS as you explore Fallout 76’s wasteland. When you’re near an enemy, you need to press L1 so that you lock on to it. The percentage figure that shows when using VATS tells you the probability of you hitting the target. Keep in mind, though, that using VATS drains your AP, which you use for sprinting and jumping and you explore.
