How to Get Rid of Radiation in Fallout 76

Recommended Videos

As Fallout 76 approaches, many questions still remain. A common one is how radiation works and how to treat it. Here’s what you need to know about how to get rid of radiation in Fallout 76.

A recurring theme in the Fallout games is dealing with the effects of a nuclear ridden world. An atomic bomb has shaped the world and how its inhabitants look and react to certain situations.

Traditionally, getting near radiation that has been caused by a nuclear explosion will negatively impact you in the world of Fallout if it infects you. That holds true in Fallout 76, but it seems to have been amplified a bit more, as this entry goes towards the survival genre more than previous entries.

What Radiation Does in Fallout 76

This ailment can negatively impact you by permanently reducing your health until you cure it. It’s recommended to take the necessary precautions when approaching areas with radiation.

For starters, there are specific areas that will contain radiation, so you’ll want to prepare. Try to keep Rad-X on hand at all times if at all possible. Rad-X is a powerful chemical that will reduce the amount of poisoning you will obtain from these dangerous areas.

If you know you’ll be entering an area with unavoidable radiation, pop a Rad-X to make your life easier. Ideally, you’d traverse the environment without coming into contact with radiation, but that won’t always be possible.

You can also encounter the ailment from eating or drinking certain things. For example, drinking water straight from a river will cause radiation damage, so remember to boil the water before drinking.

The other item to keep in mind when referring to poisoning treatment is Radaway. As the name suggests, this will remove the negative effects of poisoning and is essential when trying to survive in the wasteland.

These chemicals can be found throughout the wasteland, but particularly hospitals or any other medical-related areas might have a higher chance of appearing. You can also buy them from merchants.

Additionally, you will want to take note of the perks you can use to aid against radiation ailments. The Lead Belly perk will greatly assist with this, for instance. If you level it up all the way, you can make it so that you take no radiation from eating or drinking anything that would otherwise hurt you.

Likewise, the Rad Resistant perk will reduce radiation ailments you endure in the world of Fallout 76. However, this ailment is not always bad.

There is a perk in Fallout 76, Ghoulish, that will regenerate lost health if you come into contact with radiation. So, depending on your build, this may be something to keep in mind.

A final point is that there is a benefit that comes with being radiated: Mutations. Becoming radiated can cause mutations that may give you certain buffs, so it’s up to you how you want to handle that.

And that’s all you need to know about how to get rid of radiation in Fallout 76. Be sure to check our Fallout 76 guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
