How to Play With Friends and Other Players in Fallout 76
Unlike previous games in the popular RPG series, Fallout 76 isn’t the traditional, single-player, open world RPG you might have been expecting. Instead, Bethesda is trying something different, and for the first time in the series, Fallout is an online, shared world RPG with survival elements where you can interact with other players. Here’s what you need to know about how to play with friends and other players in Fallout 76.
Playing With Friends in Fallout 76
- Whether you’re on PS4, Xbox One, or PC, if you want to play multiplayer in Fallout 76, first you’ll need to actually be friends with them on whichever platform you’re using. So, for PS4 and Xbox One, those players need to be on your pals list. And if you’re on PC, you’ll need to be friends via Bethesda’s game launcher client.
- Once you’ve got people on your friends list, boot up the game.
- Bring up the menu, then hit R1 if you’re on PS4 or RB if you’re on Xbox One to check your Social tab.
- From here, you’ll see everyone on your friends list who’s currently online and in your game.
- Select your friend, and then choose the option to join their world.
However, do be warned that there is a player limit for each server. So if your friend’s server is full, you won’t be able to join immediately, and you’ll probably have to wait a while before a spot frees up.
Either way, once you join their world, you can bring up your map to check their location and fast travel straight to them for free. Once you’ve found your friend in Fallout 76, you can then form a team and start doing quests together.
Once you’re in a team, you’ll see the team leader’s active quests in the top right corner of the screen. You’ll all be able to earn experience together, but only the team leader with the active quest will get quest-specific item rewards for completing it.
If you meet other players during your journey in Fallout 76, you can also invite them to join your team without them having to be on your multiplayer list.
Trading With Friends and Players in Fallout 76
Aside from just doing quests together, you can also trade items with other players in Fallout 76. Walk up to another player, then hold the triangle or Y button to start a trade.
From here, you’ll be able to see both your inventory and your friend’s inventory. You can then request items from the other player’s inventory, and offer some stuff from your own stash in exchange. If you just want to gift items to your team members for free, choose the item that you want to offer, and make sure to set the cap price to zero so they can take the item with no issue.
Again, this can also be done with random players you meet in Fallout 76 who are not on your social list.
Building a Camp With Friends in Fallout 76
Every player gets a CAMP module, which can be used to build a base in the world of Fallout 76. The cool thing about this feature is that your pals can interact with your CAMP module, and use their own resources to help with the building process.
This means that you can basically build a big base together, and customize it however you want. There is a downside to this, though. Once the base owner leaves the game, the entire camp will disappear, and your friend won’t be able to see it or edit it until you’re back online and back in the same world.
And that’s pretty much all you need to know about how to play with friends and other players in Fallout 76. Be sure to check our Fallout 76 guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
