Fallout 76 Bobby Pins: How to Get Bobby Pins Free & Easy

How to Get Bobby Pins for Free & Get Them Easily in Fallout 76

Bobby pins are a key item that you’re going to go through a fair few of in Fallout 76. They’re required if you want to do just about any lockpicking in the game, regardless of the level of the lock. Problem is, they can be pretty fragile, and if you push it too hard when you’re picking a lock, it’ll snap and break. Run out of bobby pins in Fallout 76, and you’ll be unable to do any lockpicking until you’ve got more. Here’s how to get bobby pins both for free and easily in Fallout 76.

How to Get Bobby Pins for Free

Bobby pins can be acquired in a number of ways in Fallout 76. However, chances are, you’re not going to want to spend your hard-earned Caps on them if you can avoid it. As such, we’ll run you through the ways you can get them for free in Fallout 76 first, and then provide you with the easy options down below.

Firstly, make sure you’re going about and checking containers and the bodies of your fallen enemies. While there’s sometimes some sense in what items you’ll find where in Fallout 76 (for example food and cooking supplies in kitchens, medical supplies in hospitals or first aid kits etc), bobby pins are a bit of an exception. We’ve found them in cash registers, random filing cabinets, and very rarely on the bodies of enemies, too.

This isn’t the easiest way to get bobby pins in Fallout 76, but if you’re looking for a way to get them for free it doesn’t get much easier than searching bodies and containers.

Quests & Event Rewards

Another easy way to get bobby pins in Fallout 76 is by simply completing main quests, side quests, and the events that pop up around the map of West Virginia. We’ve not listed this as our top suggestion for getting bobby pins for free in Fallout 76, primarily because the rewards you get change from mission to mission and event to event. Still, if you’re otherwise well-equipped outside of your need for these precious lockpicking tools, complete some main or side quests, or complete events with other players and you may be in luck with some bobby pins.

Alternatively, if you need bobby pins right in that second, you’re going to need to splash those Caps. There are two places you can buy bobby pins from in Fallout 76, and that’s through trading with other players, or visiting one of the Protectron vendors.

Trading with other players, obviously, requires you finding another player in your server that’s willing to do you a good deal on bobby pins. Either that, or have a friend you’re playing with give you them for free if they have an abundance of them. To do so, walk over to the player you want to trade with and press Triangle on PS4 or Y on Xbox One.

This will open up the trading screen. Use R2/ RT to select their inventory, and scroll down to see if they have any bobby pins. If they do, press X or A to request them. They will then be able to offer you them for a price, or as a trade for an item in your inventory. Keep in mind, though, that some players may want to rip you off and take advantage of your desperation.

As such, we recommend seeking out one of the Protectron vendors scattered around the world. We’ve had the most luck finding these at the train stations such as Morgantown Train Station found directly east of Vault 76.

These vendors tend to have set prices for items, and so while they can still be a little costly, you’re never going to get massively ripped off. For example, the friendly robot in Morgantown Train Station will sell you bobby pins for 13 Caps each.

Again, if you’re able to get these for free by simply scavenging the wasteland and completing quests and events, then you can simply save your Caps for other items such as bulk crafting materials, Stimpacks, or some ammo.
