How to See a UFO in Red Dead Redemption 2 & What it Does

Recommended Videos

Red Dead Redemption 2‘s world is bursting with crimes to commit, animals to hunt, and tons of side activities to distract you from the Van der Linde gang’s main mission. On top of that, you’ll find a number of peculiar sights while you’re out exploring the wild west, and one of these includes seeing a UFO. Of course, spotting some alien spacecraft is one of the coolest things to see while you’re out in the wild west, so here’s what you need to do to see a UFO and what it does in Red Dead Redemption 2.

How to Start the UFO ‘Quest’

First off, it’s important to note that this isn’t a UFO ‘quest’ like we’ve seen in Bethesda’s Fallout series. Instead, this is more of a cool little easter egg for those who explore Red Dead Redemption 2’s world to uncover and enjoy for a brief moment.

In order to start the UFO quest in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll need to seek out an abandoned shack. We found this north of Emerald Ranch within the area of New Hannover. Specifically, you want to go northeast of Heartland Overflow and look for a small lake of water. The cabin you’re looking for is literally on this northern coast of the lake. We’ve got a few screenshots of where abouts it is on your map, as well as what it looks like below.

When you head inside, you’ll come across a bunch of human remains. Even creepier, however, is the giant altar-looking furniture at the head of the room, with another human body behind it. On this altar, you’ll find a note, that reads as follows:

“At the second hour under the half moon, by the great love and grace of our savior, Kuthkowaba, voyager of time and galaxies, we cast off our mortal shells so his vessel can take our spirits to the promised realm, to live in peace and power until the two thousandth year, when we will return for a new chosen and worship once again at the peak of mount Shann. In his love, we rejoice always.”

To kind of give you an idea of what this is talking about, the second hour under the half moon, basically means 2 a.m. The rest of the note suggests there’s a UFO or alien sighting to come across at this point, and that these human remains were caused as a result of a mass suicide of some cult.

How to See the UFO & What it Does

As you may have guessed then, to see the UFO in Red Dead Redemption 2, you simply need to head back to that cabin at 2 a.m. and wait around. Surely enough, the UFO will hover overhead, and you’ll be able to see it through the dilapidated roof.

A couple of things to note here. You don’t have to be in the cabin bang on 2 a.m. for the spaceship to show up. Head inside just beforehand, and the green glow will begin seeping in from the roof. It’s trying to beam you up, so be warned that if you step out of the cabin to get a better look, this will trigger the UFO to begin making its exit.

Unfortunately, that’s all the UFO does. There’s no special ray gun that it’s going to drop for you to terrorize the wild west with, nor an abundance of gold bars for you to sell for a fortune. It just hovers overhead, makes a classic ‘UFO noise,’ before zipping off into the night sky. Despite what other sites may be claiming, you do not need to go to the top of Mount Shann and come across a stone circle before visiting the cabin.

Still, it’s pretty cool just to catch a glimpse of this little easter egg in Red Dead Redemption 2.
