Berserk
When it comes to Goblin Slayer, many fans have been comparing the violent anime series with a classic called Berserk. Both anime are downright brutal and unflinching with their intense violence and explicit scenes, although some would argue that the latter is much darker.
Like Goblin Slayer, Berserk is also set in a dark fantasy world filled with plenty of abhorrent creatures. The story starts off with a lone mercenary named Guts and the leader of the Band of Hawk, Griffith, who both start off with a noble cause to help people suffering from a war.
However, things take a seriously dark turn shortly afterward that lead to Griffith forming a pact with demons. His newfound power came at the cost of sacrificing his entire mercenary group, leading to one of the most shocking anime betrayals.
After surviving this horrifying ordeal, Guts sets off on a mission to put an end to the Hawk’s former leader. From its haunting ideas to its unflinching brutality, Goblin Slayer fans should definitely keep Berserk on their radar.

Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan was a pretty big deal when it aired back in 2015, shocking viewers with giants who mercilessly eat humans. While they definitely aren’t goblins, these titans are such a huge threat to society, that they’ve barred themselves from the outside world by living inside a wall.
Both Goblin Slayer and Attack on Titan are just as violent as they are gruesome, with both of them featuring some pretty shocking scenes. The latter doesn’t shy away from severed limbs and buckets of blood, just as how Goblin Slayer isn’t afraid to show off a group of goblins stabbing a poor novice to death.
That said, their similarities run deeper than violence as both anime seem to share some common themes. For one, the humans fear these merciless creatures who destroy everything in their path. There are also special organizations who are tasked with eliminating these targets, among other tasks. That goes to say that many of these soldiers or adventurers often meet an ill end in their line of duty.
Attack on Titan is currently on its third season (and also has a new a new terrifying VR experience), so now’s probably the best time for Goblin Slayer fans to start watching the show. Oh, and if you’re looking for more anime like Attack on Titan, check out our recommendations.

Devilman Crybaby
Devilman Crybaby is yet another controversial anime that became widely successful after it aired on Netflix earlier this year. While the setting greatly differs from Goblin Slayer, it’s just as dark and brutal.
The anime centers around a timid student named Akira who one day reunites with his childhood friend, Ryo. The latter informs his friend about an ancient demon race that plans on taking over the world and urges Akira to bond with a demon.
Akira adopts his new form and transforms into Devilman, essentially giving him the powers of a demon yet retaining his demon soul. His life takes a major turn, setting the events that would eventually decide the fate of the world.
The Goblin Slayer and Akira share similarities in terms of their hatred for both goblins and demons respectively, often lashing out in mass killing sprees. However, both characters aren’t afraid to go out on a limb to save those closest to them.
We personally loved Devilman Crybaby as it’s a bloody ode to old school anime. If you’re looking for more shows just like it, we’ve also got you covered.

Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions
Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions is pretty much the perfect combination of Goblin Slayer and Sword Art Online. The story follows a group of individuals who are swept up in a mysterious game-like world with no recollection of how they got there.
The group splits, forming their different factions, and we’re left with a ragtag troupe of trainees who try to make coin by hunting goblins. Luckily, the goblins in their world aren’t as lecherous as their Goblin Slayer counterparts, although they still put up a pretty good fight.
Goblin Slayer and Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions are both grounded in realism, despite their fantasy settings. Both characters fight not only to earn coin but also as a means of survival.
Their enemies, despite being lowly goblins, are far from pushovers and won’t hesitate to kill if given the opportunity. Overall, Goblin Slayer fans will definitely find a lot to love in Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions.

Claymore
Claymore plays out in the same vein as Goblin Slayer, with creatures known as Yoma terrorizing villages and towns. A select group of people known as the Claymores are tasked with hunting down these creatures.
The Claymores are spearheaded by a mysterious group known as The Organization, who basically create these soldiers that are half human-Yoma hybrid. Like Goblin Slayer, it’s up to these Claymore to hunt down the Yoma to keep people safe and also earn a living.
Claymore is split into different arcs, focusing on the protagonist named Claire. However, we do get to see more of the other soldiers through flashbacks and other events, shedding more light on the group.
The anime is also known for being quite violent, featuring some pretty bloody battles with limbs flying off and what not. Though if you have the stomach for Goblin Slayer, you shouldn’t have too much trouble with this anime.
