Dragon Quest XI: How to Level Up Fast

How to Level Up Fast in Dragon Quest XI

Recommended Videos

After nearly a decade, western fans can finally return to one of the most seminal JRPG series of all time with Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. To make it through this journey, players will need to defeat monsters in battle and gain experience to level up, learn new abilities and become strong enough to defeat the evil forces at play.

Trying to level up can be time-consuming if you don’t know where to look though, as most enemies only provide an amount of experience appropriate for the area they currently inhabit. Likewise, areas with stronger enemies, and thus higher amounts of potential experience to gain, are difficult to survive in for long, and that’s only if players can access them at all.

Instead, the best way to level up fast in Dragon Quest XI is to find a section of the map where metal slimes appear. Though their encounter rate is low, they provide massive amounts of experience if they’re defeated before fleeing and can save players hours of grinding to level up against normal enemies. Better yet, they can appear in most any area throughout Dragon Quest XI, with different variants providing higher experience values.

To trigger encounters with metal slimes in Dragon Quest XI, grind in areas where different variants of slimes can be found. With luck, one or two should appear. Once they do, hammer them with as many physical attacks as possible. Avoid magical attacks, as most every variant is resistant and will most certainly flee before you can finish them that way.

Keep in mind that they have a high chance of fleeing battle and keep your attacks focused to one metal slime at a time to ensure you walk away with at least one kill’s worth for each encounter. Rinse and repeat this strategy until your party members are good and bulked up for any future encounters.

That’s all you need to know to level up fast in Dragon Quest XI.

Dragon Quest XI is set for release on the PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch. For more on the game, check out our review as well as our wiki for everything you need to know about the game.
