Dead Cells is an excellent mix of traditional roguelike and metroidvania design. Each time you’re defeated, you begin a run again, getting the chance to upgrade and get stronger each time. As you’re running through, getting to grips with the excellent combat and traversal, you might be wondering how long a full run takes and how many levels you’ll need to get through to get to the end. Well, here’s everything you need to know about how long Dead Cells is and how many levels there are.

A full run, from the start to the final boss, will probably take you anywhere from 30 minutes to about an hour, assuming you’re experienced, and well upgraded enough to survive. You will have to have been far in a previous run, because you’ll need the runes to help you reach other areas, and beating the bosses once will help you in other runs.

In terms of how many levels there are, there is a total of 17 different areas, but you won’t see them all in each run. Different areas lead to different areas, with you not being able to reach certain areas once you’ve gone to other particular ones. You will always start at the Prisoners’ Quarters, but you have two choices of where to go from there, once you have the first rune, and so on after that. It also means that you will face different bosses, depending on which path you take. If you want know which areas can be reached at each point, check out this full rundown.
