Octopath Traveler: How to Disable Corner Shadows

How to Disable Corner Shadows in Octopath Traveler

Recommended Videos

The Nintendo Switch exclusive Octopath Traveler is a classic throwback JRPG from the talented team at Square Enix, also responsible for Bravely Default. In addition to a classic turn-based battle system, the game sports a 16-bit sprite aesthetic, mixed with some modern graphical elements like shadows and water effects. Square Enix has said the game has an “HD-2D” visual style, and it certainly makes Octopath Traveler one of the most gorgeous games to hit the Switch. Eagle-eyed players have probably noticed that Octopath Traveler uses a little trick with corner shadows in cutscenes to make scenes look more like a vignette. Of course, this visual display might not be for everything and if you find it distracting while playing the game, luckily, there’s an easy to way to turn it off.

To turn off corner shadows simply open your main menu while playing the game, or you can select settings from the title screen as well. From the main menu go to Miscellaneous, then select settings. Once in the settings menu scroll down until you see the option “Corner Shadows.” Just flip it to off if that’s what you want to do, and it should eliminate the vignette effect from your cutscenes. It’s a small change that doesn’t affect anything gameplay-wise, so just try out both options and see whichever one you like best. The game still looks quite stunning either way, and you can swap between the options at any time you want, so you won’t need to reload a save or go through a loading screen or anything.

That’s everything you need to know about disabling corner shadows in Octopath Traveler. For more tips and guides on the game, make sure to search Twinfinite or check out our expansive wiki guide.
