Fortnite: What the Gun & Weapon Colors Mean

What the Gun & Weapon Colors Mean in Fortnite

Recommended Videos

Fortnite may be a third person shooter with a battle royale arena, but it still holds some influences from MMOs, it seems. The weapons and guns you’ll come across in the game each glow with a specific color when you see the on the ground (as well as when they’re on your hot bar). This signifies how rare they are and also how powerful they are. We’ve got a full breakdown of what this means below.

You may have noticed there’s plenty of guns that look exactly the same but have a different color? Well, that’s why. They vary in strengths. Here’s the breakdown of the colors for you:

  • Common – Gray
  • Uncommon – Green
  • Rare – Blue
  • Epic – Purple
  • Legendary – Orange
  • Mythic – Gold

So, you see, as you go down the color wheel above, you’ll get stronger and stronger versions of the weapon. You’ll always want to switch out something for its better version and so on and so forth until you have the best that you could possibly have.

To start with, common ones are easiest to find (obviously). And you’ll have a progressively harder time as you go down the colors. You might not even run into a purple weapon or an orange one in your match! The change in how strong a weapon is will make all the difference for you in this fast-paced game.

Well, there you have it, that’s why you kept getting your butt kicked with a weapon that was almost exactly like yours.
