Rage 2 was revealed almost a month ago, and while the announcement trailer is as insane as it is loud, it doesn’t tell us much about the game. Sure, it features plenty of mutants, explosions, and a Mad Max meets Burning Man aesthetic, but the trailer is at such a breakneck pace it doesn’t give audiences a chance to process any of what they just saw. Good thing E3 exists to tell us all we need to know about Rage 2.
According to Bethesda’s E3 presentation, Rage 2 will put players in the shows of Walker, the “last Ranger of the Wasteland.” This time around, Bethesda asked Avalanche Studios, the developer of the famous Just Cause series, to create the game. Like the original Rage, Rage 2 will be divided between furious FPS combat and explosive vehicular slaughterfests. But now players will be able to drive any vehicle they want. If you can see it, you can drive it. The trailer’s words, not mine.
Bethesda’s E3 gameplay trailer claims Rage 2 will feature an expansive, seamless world, full of furious combat. Players will have plenty of guns to gib hapless enemies, but players will also have access to various powers, including a rage mode, a force push, and an anti-grav field. These abilities will be obtained throughout the game; as players complete missions, they will gain new and more powerful skills. Oh, And the Wingsticks make their return. Good old reliable Wingsticks.
Rage 2’s existence might have been as expected as the Spanish Inquisition, but judging by the E3 presentation, the game might be the must-buy FPS of 2019, especially since the collector’s edition comes with a talking mutant head. You know those talking rubber bass on your uncle’s wall? Imagine that but cooler and with more in its repertoire than just Don’t Worry Be Happy. Rage 2 is scheduled to release during the spring of 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for new announcements.
