Ubisoft Unveils Assassin’s Creed Odyssey With Developer Commentary, Trailer

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the newest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, has received a new trailer and gameplay teaser showcasing the game’s story and setting.

Shown during Ubisoft’s E3 2018 press conference, the trailer offers new footage of the game and its world; a sprawling recreation of ancient Greece, complete with lively towns and ancient monuments from the time. As either of the two Spartan protagonists to choose from, Alexios or Kassandra, players can experience a new story tied to the First Civ while exploring the largest game world to date from the series. Both the survivors of a tragedy that tore their families apart, the game follows the characters’ journey to uncover an unknown treasure as they travel across the land and sea in search of this untold bounty.

Along with Assassin’s Creed’s trademark features, the game includes new features such as dialogue options, choosing how the players’ character reacts to certain situations and dilemmas, and equipment customization, allowing players to alter and enhance their characters to their play styles. This includes the game’s spear weapon, which can be enhanced with new abilities and enhancements which can impact everything in the game from combat to stealth.

Players will also once again be able to engage in naval gameplay, with Triremes available for use throughout the game’s world. The naval gameplay offers a diverse array of options from traversal to combat as well as customization options for boats and their crews, and will play a pivotal role in throughout the title.

Odyssey comes following the success of Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017. Set in ancient Egypt, the title received praise for its fleshed out world as well as the variety of its gameplay. The game also used its ancient setting to offer an educational mode which disables the game’s combat-oriented modes to allow players to explore and learn about the game’s inspirations at their leisure. It has not yet been revealed whether this mode will return in Odyssey.
