How to Increase Max Health in God of War

Recommended Videos

God of War is making a return on the PS4 this year, and it allows fans to jump back into the shoes of Kratos and get wrapped up in a brand new adventure with tons of hack-and-slash action. When you start out in God of War, Kratos has a fairly average sized health bar. However, you can potentially increase the maximum health bar by pursuing some optional objectives.

First off, you can increase Kratos’ health by improving the vitality stat in God of War. This is done by equipping armor sets that offer a vitality boost, or equipping enchantments that help to increase it. However, your vitality can drop when you equip different armor sets. A more reliable way of increasing Kratos’ health is by collecting Idunn Apples in God of War.

These are found by unlocking Nornir chests, which can be identified by the three blue runes etched into them. Whenever you find one of these chests, you’ll need to solve a simple puzzle by either breaking three pots in the area with the corresponding runes, or hitting three bells with the runes in a limited amount of time. Nornir chests will contain either Idunn Apples or Horns of Blood Mead, with the latter increasing your maximum Rage meter. After you collect three Idunn Apples, your maximum health bar will increase permanently.

That’s all you need to do to bolster Kratos’ vitality so he can take more hits in God of War. For more on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
