Those who have downloaded the Champion’s Ballad DLC in Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be able to locate two incredibly useful pieces of gear that will make their horse much more versatile in the form of the Ancient Horse Gear, and both are quite easy to get.

To begin, head to the Highland Stable in Hyrule’s south (Ka’o Makagh is the closest shrine, located in the mountains nearby), and collect the journal within – Super Rumor Mill V3. It tells of the mysterious Ancient Horse gear that can increase your horse’s skill and summon it to your side.

With book in hand, make your way to the Malanya Spring, south of the Highland Stables, either by crossing Horse God Bridge, or by scaling the surrounding mountains. Behind the Great Fairy’s Fountain, tucked away next to the canyon wall, is a chest. Using the Magnesis power, yank the chest free and open it to receive the Ancient Saddle. This helpful piece of Ancient Horse gear will call your horse to your side whenever you whistle, regardless of how far away it was when you last left it.

For the next piece of Ancient Horse gear in Breath of the Wild, teleport to Mogg Latan shrine on Satori Mountain. Go north and seek out a large cherry blossom tree. It will be easy to spot due to its distinctive pink petals. You will also be able to mark it on your map, if you’re having trouble – just look for the single tree directly north from the shrine. Use Magnesis to unearth the chest and claim the Ancient Bridle. Equipping your horse with this piece of Ancient Horse Gear will add a pair of spurs to your horse’s stamina.

Speak to a stablehand to adorn your steed with the Ancient Horse Gear (only possible if you have bonded with them, and not applicable to Epona or the Giant Horse). For more on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
