Overwatch League Could Be Getting its First Female Pro Player Soon

After receiving a little bit of flak over the fact that there isn’t a single female player on any of the teams, ESPN reports that all of that is about to change in the Overwatch League. According to ESPN’s report and their sources, South Korean player Kim Se-yeon is set to join the Shanghai Dragons. She’s more commonly known as Geguri, who mains Zarya and off-tank roles.

In addition to that, the Shanghai Dragons will also be getting two additional South Korean players signed to their roster.

‘South Korean Overwatch off-tank Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon, formerly of ROX Orcas, is set to join Shanghai Dragons in the Overwatch League and become the first female player to join the league, multiple sources close to the players involved and the organization told ESPN.com.

Joining Geguri will be Element Mystic tank captain Lee “Fearless” Eui-Seok and MVP Space flex Cheon “Ado” Ki-hyun, sources said.

The three South Korean players will be joined by a fourth unknown Chinese player to round out the Dragons roster, should the deal go through, sources said.’

More importantly, however, this also means that the Dragons will finally be getting a bit more depth in their roster. As of Stage 1 Week 4, the Dragons have yet to clinch a single victory in the League, and this has been largely due to their poor tank line and supports, as well as a lack of coordination among the players. Bolstering the roster should help them out significantly.

Overwatch League’s inaugural season is currently underway, and Week 5 is set to kick off on Wednesday evening.
