Ouch, less than half of what the first game sold.

EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II was the source of one of gaming’s biggest controversies in 2017. Though now sales numbers are starting to come in for the game courtesy of VGChartz that show just how poorly the game sold as a result of the backlash.

According to the sales figures, Star Wars: Battlefront II sold roughly around a total of 1,326, 906 units at its first week in retail. The breakdown of that number have it doing its best on the Playstation 4 with about two-thirds of the sales coming from there at 869,493 units. The Xbox One version of the game sold about 438,708 units by comparison, with Windows PC  selling around 18,705 units.

Bear in mind these numbers do not take digital sales into account, but even giving the game generous estimates on that front its sales are significantly below what 2015’s Star Wars: Battlefront did in its opening week. In its first week Battlefront sold a total of 3,675,687 units. By comparison, Battlefront II has had an almost two-thirds dropoff.

This is most likely a direct result to the incredible fan backlash the game received for its loot boxes and pay-to-win mechanics. Further sales figures have yet to surface for the title, but it appears the game sold far less than was intended.
