It’s known that there are a lot of game developers out there that praise the Nintendo Switch and all it is capable of. But that list grew a little longer when Jesse Rapczak mentioned in an interview with Games Industry that he is impressed with the Switch and that it would be “a great platform for a game like Ark.”
Jesse Rapczak is a co-founder of Studio Wildcard, which has created and produced Ark: Survival Evolved. While of course, he talked more about Ark in his interview, Rapczak also spoke about the Switch and if Ark would ever be ported over to Nintendo’s new console, “Switch is a little challenging because it is a totally different platform, so we’re throwing some ideas around, just seeing if it makes sense right now.”
So although there is currently no solid plan to bring Ark to the Switch, the new console has Studio Wildcard excited. Especially because they could see it appealing to some of their fans who do log in to care for their dinosaurs and any plants they may have that need watering and harvesting. These quick tasks could be done while on the go, if, in fact, Ark came to the hybrid system. The main factor keeping the company from throwing all their dino eggs into that basket is the technical side of the conversation and recreating the title to better work on the Switch.
So we do have a lot of hurdles there, especially with memory. But I will say, for sure, we’re not ignoring the Switch. I think it’s definitely proven to be a platform that is a little bit better this time around for third-party developers.
Ark: Survival Evolved is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac, and Linux.
