Alongside the return of the frenetic cooperative horde mode and the plethora of new skins added in the Overwatch Halloween update are substantial hero balancing changes, with Sombra receiving a game-changing buff.
Before the patch, Sombra can use her regular hacking skill to stop several ultimate abilities: Reaper’s Death Blossom, McCree’s Dead Eye, Roadhog’s Whole Hog and Pharah’s Rocket Barrage. With the patch, the number of ultimate abilities she can hack has increased, but can be quite tricky to pull off.
According to the latest patch notes, Sombra can now interrupt the ultimate abilities of a few heroes during their cast time. These include Ana’s Nano Boost, Orisa’s Supercharger, Mei’s Blizzard, and Reinhardt’s Earthshatter. These ultimate abilities have a very short cast time, so she needs to be hacking them mid-way before activation. At best, it’s a great way to punish players who use ultimate abilities as a reactionary move against Sombra’s hack.
There are more changes introduced in the Overwatch Halloween update, and the most important one involves the way ultimate abilities are reset. In a nutshell, everyone’s ultimate abilities will fully reset after pressing the ultimate button, regardless if players were able to use it. Before, heroes would still have a portion of their ultimate ability meter if they failed to use its full duration.
