L.A. Noire Will Be $10 More on Nintendo Switch Than on Other Platforms

The dreaded Switch tax strikes again.

l.a. noire reefer madness

Yesterday brought the surprise announcement that Rockstar Games will re-release 2011’s L.A. Noire on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and (most surprisingly) Nintendo Switch. But while many Switch owners are likely excited to be getting one of Rockstar’s many AAA games to originally skip a Nintendo platform release, it turns out they’ll have to pay a premium for the privilege.

Rockstar’s website shows that while of L.A. Noire’s re-release will cost $39.99 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the Switch version will cost $10 more at $49.99. Digital releases on all three consoles are set at $39.99.

This isn’t the first time a third-party release has been priced higher on Switch than on other consoles. Earlier this year, NBA 2K18 became the first game to experience this uneven pricing that many fans have dubbed “the Switch tax.”

For its part, Rockstar explained on its website that L.A. Noire for Switch features “an array of new enhancements specifically for Switch gaming including a Joy-Con mode with gyroscopic, gesture-based controls, HD rumble and new wide and over-the-shoulder camera angles, plus contextual touch screen controls for portable detective work.”

But while the Switch version may have those extra features, it seems that it will not include the “array of technical and graphical enhancements for a more realistic Los Angeles” that the versions for the more technologically capable Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will have.

L.A. Noire releases for all three consoles on November 14.
