Bethesda Softworks’ and Arkane Studios’ Prey is now available as a free trial for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, the publisher announced today via YouTube. Saves, achievements/trophies and story progress will carry to the full version should people choose to purchase it.
As an added incentive, the title is discounted to $29.99 for a limited time across all the aforementioned platforms.
The game’s opening hours will be available to curious players at no charge, replacing Prey’s existing demo version but allowing potential buyers more or less the same glimpse into the title, as this demo took place during the game’s initial segments too.
Though Prey’s demo was made available to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners, PC players weren’t given the option and instead were offered refunds by Bethesda if they weren’t satisfied with the game after they purchased it. Today’s free trial will be released across all three platforms, however.
Released this past May, Prey is considered a reimagining of the 2006 game of the same name, having no relation to the cancelled sequel of the original title and instead relying completely upon its own assets. Built as something of a spiritual successor to System Shock, players take control of Morgan Yu as he tries to escape a research station overrun by a deadly alien species. The title is very Metroidvania in style and eventually opens up to an open world setting.
