The Overwatch Arcade brought a lot of new potential to the game that we wouldn’t normally see in both Quick and Competitive Play. So far, we’ve gotten some cool modes like Capture the Flag, Total Mayhem, No Limits, and so much more, but it doesn’t seem like Blizzard is slowing down anytime soon. According to a recent (and surprising) developer update, game director Jeff Kaplan has revealed that they will be rolling in a new Deathmatch game mode to Overwatch.
Here, players will be fighting to get the most kills, which will all be tracked in a new scoreboard. Moreover, there will be two types of play to this mode: Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch. The former pits the player in a 1v7 situation to see who can get 20 kills the fastest, while the latter is a standard 6v6 mode with the winning team having to score 30 kills. What’s interesting about Team Deathmatch is that Mercy’s Resurrect ability actually takes awake from the enemy’s kill count, so that’s something to keep in mind.
That aside, Blizzard has already modified several maps in Overwatch to accommodate this new mode. In line with this, they’ve also created a new map specifically for Deathmatch called Château Guillard which gives more insight into Widowmaker’s backstory. Lore hunters should be on the lookout for clues hinting at her past and what she’s currently planning in the plot.
While the Overwatch Deathmode will be launching on the live servers soon, you can try out the new mode now on the PTR. Those who are looking to try out the game can get a copy for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. To learn more, you can watch the full developer update video below:
