Saddening news comes out today by way of BioWare as Corey Gaspur, a veteran designer working on Anthem, has passed away. Currently, the reasoning behind Gaspur’s passing is unknown, but he leaves behind a loving community of fans and colleagues, as is evident in the blog post BioWare posted earlier today.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Corey Gaspur,” the blog post stated, offering no insight into what may have been plaguing Gaspur leading up to his death. It’s certainly an unfortunate turn of events, as losing any member of the industry is never a bright point in anyone’s day.
Gaspur had previously worked on titles like Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood and Mass Effect, which he had a hand in designing combat for in the series’ later stages. Most recently he had completed consulting work on Star Wars Battlefront and Mass Effect: Andromeda, after which he became lead designer. His latest project was the upcoming science fiction role-playing title Anthem.
Anthem isn’t currently slated for release until 2018, but there’s no doubt Gaspur’s passing has rocked the development team and fans alike.
