Rocket League Devs Constantly Ask Sony About Cross-Play

Join in, Sony!

Rocket League fans were pleased to hear at E3 earlier this month that cross-play is coming to Rocket League across the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. However, it seems Sony has not given the go-ahead for such a feature to be added to the PlayStation 4 version.

In a recent interview with Engadget, developer Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham stated: “There have been slight variations on how it’s been presented to us, but essentially it’s the same answer. It’s, ‘Not right now” or, ‘It’s something we’ll consider.’ That’s paraphrasing, but there hasn’t been any movement.”

Psyonix has apparently been very persistent in asking Sony for permission. Apparently, at least one person at Psyonix has been in contact with Sony every day since the game launched in 2015 and the topic of cross-network play has come up in some of those conversations.

Nintendo apparently gave Psyonix permission for cross-play the same day it was asked for, whilst Microsoft took about a month to be convinced. Dunham went on to say that Psyonix has tested cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in closed environments and the results were very good. They say it’s just a matter of convincing Sony.

Sony also recently denied Minecraft from having cross-play with gamers from other platforms. It seems Sony is open to the idea but doesn’t want to commit just yet. Here’s hoping the company joins the party soon.
