MONSTER HUNTER WORLD LOOKS BEAUTIFUL ON TODAY’S CONSOLES
During Sony’s big E3 press conference this week, we were showered with nothing but trailer after trailer and announcements after announcements. One of the most surprising news to come out from the Sony press briefing was the reveal for Monster Hunter World, the next installment in Capcom’s action role-playing franchise.
Lets take a look back at the glorious Monster Hunter World trailer and closely examine the important information that might have been left out in the initial reveal.
The trailer starts off with showing a hunter pushing his way through some shrubs and ending up in an open forest. From this first look at the game, you can already see that Monster Hunter World is definitely taking advantage of the modern-day consoles; the graphics look beautiful and more detailed than ever before. We see the hunter then swimming which means that underwater combat that’s been seen in past Monster Hunter titles might be making a comeback in World. Swinging a sword and maneuvering underwater while fighting huge aquatic monsters sounds like a grand ol’ time.
STEALTH PLAYS A BIG PART
Stealth seems to be a new mechanic in Monster Hunter World. In one scene, we see the player approach a group of monsters who begin to notice the player, but then they start to move away from him once he crouches in a very convenient bush. While walking behind a larger monster, he then picks up what seems to be a piece of foliage and then easily equips it onto his body to act as a green, bushy costume that’s perfect for blending into the lush environment.
Sneaking past an enemy that’s way overpowered than you might be the better option than to fight him without the proper equipment or items. Expect to see Monster Hunter World utilize stealth as a method of capturing and/or defeating the big, bad monsters.
ENCOUNTERS ARE INTENSE AS EVER
New monsters are shown as well as battling mechanics. Jumping onto a monster’s back is back and better than ever, as well as a grappling hook that lets you get back onto an enemy after being thrown off into the air. We don’t know if this was thrown in the trailer just for looks, but there were sequences where the player was being hunted by a boss Wyvern through multiple areas throughout the map, making encounters as intense as ever. As with every new Monster Hunter games, there are sure to be new weapons to be found and unique ways to entrap enemies that we’ve never seen before.
SEAMLESS TRANSITIONS BETWEEN AREAS
There may be scripted sequences, or maybe areas will be absent in Monster Hunter World, making the actual world seamless and without loading screens. In past Monster Hunter titles, there would be around 5-10 areas per map that would cause the game to load whenever you left or entered a different area. Using the power of the PS4 and Xbox One and given the title of the game, Monster Hunter World looks to get rid of the archaic system and may provide players with seamless transitions between different parts of the map.
RELEASE WINDOW AND MULTIPLAYER
Capcom did not provide any other specific details, like whether or not the online multiplayer that is typically seen in Monster Hunter titles will be present. A multiplayer mode was not seen in the reveal trailer but we can only assume that the game will indeed feature some sort of online connectivity.
Monster Hunter World is planned to launch sometime in early 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. Capcom has also confirmed that the title will be coming to PC at a later date.
